👨👧👦 Why Dads in the Water Matter — Backed by Research:
💪 Confidence Booster – Kids feel empowered with Dad by their side.
✔️ Research shows that children who engage in physical play with their fathers demonstrate greater self-confidence and resilience.
(Lamb, 2010)
🧠 Supports Development – Active play improves coordination, focus, and emotional growth.
✔️ Father involvement in early physical activity is linked to stronger motor skills, better attention spans, and emotional regulation.
(Sarkadi et al., 2008; Yogman et al., 2016)
❤️ Strengthens the Bond – Quality time in the pool builds trust and connection.#l
✔️ Shared activities like swimming support healthy attachment and relational development through touch, eye contact, and play.
(Feldman, 2007; Bowlby Attachment Theory)
🌊 Healthy Role Modeling – Seeing Dad engage helps kids form positive habits for life.
✔️ Children tend to mimic the behaviors of engaged parents, leading to long-term healthy lifestyle habits.
(Davison & Birch, 2001)

Coach Alecia working on safety swim with our little friend today!
Yes — with consistent practice, kids can build real water safety skills in as little as 6 weeks. But there’s no such thing as a one-and-done swim program.
Water safety is a journey. It takes repetition, trust, and continued exposure to reinforce skills and keep them sharp — especially as kids grow and develop.
At Ola Loa, we focus on building confident, capable swimmers for life — not just for the summer.

🎁 Here’s a gift idea for the holidays… 🎁
Let’s keep our keiki safe and stylish in the water! 💦 Bright-colored swim gear—think neon pink, yellow, or orange—isn’t just cute, it’s smart. 🧡 Experts say these colors are easier to spot in pools, waterparks, and even the ocean, helping parents and lifeguards keep a better eye on little swimmers. 🌊
🧐 Did you know? Light blue, pastel, or white swimsuits can blend into the water, making it harder to see keiki at a glance.
Pair those bright swimsuits with swim lessons, and you’ve got the perfect combo for safety and confidence in the water. 💪✨

🌊 Confidence starts with a splash! 🌊
As parents, one of the greatest gifts we can give our keiki is confidence in and around water.
💦 Whether it’s during bathtime or pool play, every small splash and giggle builds trust and water skills. 🛁✨
Here’s a tip: try gently introducing water on their face—little drizzles and playful splashes can make all the difference! 🙌 These joyful moments create lifelong safety and love for the water. 🌺

🌊 Keiki & Wai: Curiosity Meets Safety 🌊
Our keiki (children) are naturally curious about wai (water), whether it’s the kai (ocean), kahawai (rivers), or loko wai (pools). This curiosity is a beautiful connection to our ‘āina (land) and its gifts—but it also comes with responsibilities to mālama (protect) them.
Here are 3 Layers of Protection every ‘ohana (family) can take to ensure water safety for our keiki:
1️⃣ Maka‘ala (Stay Alert):
Always supervise keiki around water. Never assume someone else is watching. Be makaukau (prepared) to act at any moment.
2️⃣ Barriers:
Install fences around pools and use safety covers. Make sure gates are latching and out of reach of little hands.
3️⃣ Ho'omakaukau (Teach Readiness):
Introduce keiki to swimming lessons early and teach them how to respect and safely navigate wai. Early education is the foundation of ka mālama kai (ocean safety).
Curiosity doesn’t need to lead to danger—it can be the start of a lifelong aloha (love) for wai. Let’s work together to keep our keiki safe and connected to this sacred element.

🛟 So many parents use puddle jumpers, thinking they’re keeping keiki safe – but in reality, they can lead to dangerous overconfidence in little ones around water. A huge mahalo to our friend for sharing her journey to ditch the floaties for safer methods. 🚫 Here are a few reasons #puddlejumpers can be risky:
🔴 False Confidence: Puddle jumpers can make kids feel too comfortable, leading them to believe water is safe without knowing real swim skills.
🔴 Incorrect Swim Posture: These devices position kids upright, which creates a habit that’s nearly impossible to maintain on their own, especially under age 4.
🔴 Unclear Boundaries: With puddle jumpers, kids often think they can jump into the water anytime, even without supervision. Tragically, studies show that 70% of drowning incidents occur within just 5 minutes of a child last being seen safe, away from the water.
If you’re not sure what to use or where to start, DM us! We’ll help you find the safest way to teach your keiki how to thrive in the water. 🌊 #PoolSafety #WaterSafety #childsafety
